A consultative meeting of Jihadi leaders and national political figures was chaired by President Karzai to follow up discussions on the issue of setting a practical mechanism and conditions for talks with armed opposition.
A similar meeting was held on Tuesday, where participants agreed to continue the discussions on the important issues of national concern.
The meeting focused, in particular, on agreeing to lay down a practical mechanism and to set specific conditions for talks with the opposition. It was emphasized that the peace process be pursued in a manner that is led and owned by Afghans.
The meeting also agreed for a known address or office for the armed opposition established only for the purpose of negotiations.
It was stressed in the meeting that the office or address to represent Taliban for negotiations be based inside Afghanistan and in case the ground is not paved for the office to open in Afghanistan, then it should be located in a Muslim country preferably Saudi Arabia or Turkey. The participants in the meeting underlined that before any peace talks can start, the conflict and violence against the people of Afghanistan must stop. It was also decided that no other country or entity should intervene in the process without the agreement of the government of Afghanistan.
It was strongly noted in the meeting that respect and preserving the achievements gained over the past ten years as well as respect to the Constitution remains as basic conditions for negotiations.
Participants in today’s meeting included Vice President Marshal Fahim, Prof. Mujaddedi, Pir Gilani, Salahuddin Rabani, Haji Mohammad Muhaqiq, Qeyamuddin Kashaf, Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, Haji Deen Mohammad, Sayd Mansoor Naderi, Senior Minister Arsala, Gul Rahman Qazi, Sulaiman Yari, Maulavi Arsala Rahmani, Foreign Minister Dr. Rasoul, Dr. Sadiq Mudabir and Abdul Karim Khuram.
